Message It is common to argue tickets. If it's a general speeding ticket, then you have a good chance of reducing the penalty, e.g. I got one last November for 82 in 65.

In PA it carried a fine of $140 and 4 points- 6 points and your license can be suspended. Also it will show up on insurance. I had no defense and was dead to rights. However I signed not guilty on the ticket and got a hearing date. (Again that was for PA. Your ticket should have instructions- of not, call the magistrate in the area of the offense for instructions.)

I drove 2 hours to the hearing with the magistrate. The officer was there and we talked candidly for 2 minutes. I admitted I had no defense. I just asked to get the points taken off.

He advised he could have the magistrate reduce the points to 2 and reduce the fine. I agreed. The remaining 2 points will be wiped off my license next month and my license will be clean.

If the offense is much heavier such as reckless, careless and/or DUI, and your license is in jeopardy, then get an attorney and he will argue for more lenient penalty.
